On my down time at work today I got to thinking about various other food sources that may be available to me. I just don't think that I've been creative enough and I'm sure there are many other avenues to explore out there. For some time now I have pondered the idea of trapping small animals like rabbits, squirrels, ducks, geese and wild turkeys. I am open to that but my family (Debbie in particular) will not love me anymore if I become a 'murderer.' So here's my plan. . .
I have been watching a lot of YouTube videos again about small snares and traps to capture woodland creatures like the little grey bunnies that venture through my yard from time to time. So I had the thought that I would learn these primative trapping skills and actually try to capture some animals. The plan is to capture them without causing them any harm and then upon releasing them back into the wild I would be granted a small animal reward - as in I would be able to go to the market and purchase an equivalently sized animal to eat. Makes sense right?
I ran that idea past Debbie and after giving it some thought she said that it would be acceptable to her. Pretty good huh? Perhapse I should add that to my Rewards Page. Any comments?
Day 8 brought me much needed butter and spices as a reward. What a HUGE difference a little flavoring can make! There's still a long road ahead so I will have to ration appropriately. The mental boost of making fire last night and getting rewards today has given me hope and made this day a pretty easy one. Still stuck on clams, asaragus, water and rice but now it all tastes better.
I am encouraged by some other videos to search for wild edibles such as Ramps, Fiddleheads and Morels in the near future. In addition, I am toying with the idea of making a primative fish trap. It's amazing what you can learn from YouTube.
